Instructions:

  1. Safety Precautions:

    • Work in a well-ventilated area to avoid fume buildup.
    • Avoid skin contact. MEK-P can cause skin irritation. Use chemical-resistant gloves.
    • Wear safety glasses to prevent any splashes into your eyes.
    • No smoking or open flames. MEK-P is highly flammable and can produce flammable vapors.
    • Use a suitable respirator, especially if you're working in a confined space.
  2. Preparation:

    • Ensure the surface is clean, dry, and free from any contaminants, oils, or grease.
    • Sand the area where the compound will be applied, typically using 80-grit sandpaper.
  3. Mixing:

    • For the appropriate catalyst quantity, refer to our MEKP Catalyzation Chart.
    • Mix the compound and hardener thoroughly until there are no streaks. Ensure the mixture is consistent.
  4. Application:

    • Apply the mixture to the prepared surface using a putty knife, trowel, or a similar tool.
    • Press down to fill any gaps, dents, or imperfections and spread it evenly.
  5. Curing:

    • Allow the compound to cure as per the manufacturer's recommendations. Curing times can vary based on the specific product, temperature, and humidity.
    • The compound can become exothermic (hot) while curing, especially if applied in thick layers.
  6. Sanding and Finishing:

    • Once cured, sand the surface, starting with coarse sandpaper and progressing to finer grits.
    • For a smoother finish, wet-sand the surface.
    • After achieving the desired finish, apply a primer, paint, or gelcoat as required.
  7. Clean-up:

    • Clean all tools immediately after use with acetone or a suitable cleaning solvent.
    • Dispose of any leftover mixed compound as it can't be reused and might be considered hazardous waste.
